Free Form Crochet Shawl?

These are pics of a shawl I made for my stepmom for Christmas. I didn't use a pattern. I made it up as I went along. There was a lot I'd do differently if I was making something like that again. I made "mistakes" so I decided to not even bother to try writing it down.

Pattern for the adult scarf

It is done.

Here is the adult scarf pattern. It is quite a bit longer than the child-sized version.
Of course, if you are good with adapting patterns, you could adapt it to various sizes.
I hope you like it. It should be fairly easy.

Deluxe Pineapple Afghan Pattern

I am on a roll today.
Again, this pattern has not been tested yet. There may be errors. If you find them please let me know. It will be a while before I have a pic of this because next on my agenda is designing a pineapple shawl.

Got the crocheting bug again--Pineapple Scarf -- New!

I've been doing a lot of quilting and scrapbooking lately, that my crocheting was getting neglected. Something someone said got me to thinking and I came up with a design for a new afghan.
While working on it this morning, I realized I can use this design to make a scarf, and I can adapt it to make a shawl. Wow! Am I excited.

I just finished writing down the directions for the scarf.
Please be warned, there probably are a few mistakes, as I haven't had the pattern tested (by someone other than me). If you find a mistake, please let me know and I will correct it. Also please let me know if something is unclear or hard to understand.

First snag: I just realized it is a little short for a scarf. It's fine for the short people (what my daughter calls children), but I will have to adapt it for adults.

Drum roll please (yes I still get excited as this is only the 2nd thing I've actually designed)

Here it is:

I am unsure of the exact amount of yarn it takes. I think about 4 oz. I will try to find out a closer idea of how much.

Nothing much new

I have done a little crocheting lately, but not much. Scarves, scarves and more scarves.
I need to weave in the ends on two of them.

white scarf

I haven't done a lot of crocheting lately. However, one day at church a lady had a scarf on that was made with fun fur or boa yarn. I commented on it and she said a friend made it for her. Somehow that got me started again. I usually do quilting stuff while watching tv downstairs. But I've started switching to crochet for the hour before I go to sleep.
This is the first one that I've done in a while.
For those wondering how I made this...
I used one strand of boa yarn and one strand of Worsted Weight White yarn, crocheting them together. The bad thing is that I am not sure about some of the details. I think I used an "I" hook. The row was 8 stitches across, and I used double crochet stitch. So I probably chained 10 and then dc in the 4th chain and each across.I use the chain 3 as the first dc, so the last dc is put in the chain space at the end of the row.I hope that makes sense. I don't have pics up of them yet, but later I used 2 strands of fun fur with the same "pattern" and I thought it worked up quite nice. When I take more pics, I'll try to take some pics of them.
The one thing I've noticed this year (at least in NY) is that scarves are seeming to be longer than last year. Probably some wider too, but I don't like them wider so don't... LOL.Oh btw, the white scarf used 2 skeins of the boa yarn.

New pattern

YEAH! I finally actually wrote down a crochet pattern. It is a pineapple scarf. It is so simple and easy to make. Works up quickly.

Scarf received

Not much is happening today here.
I'm still working on a baby afghan. I figured out how I want to finish it last night. I made it a little small so will be putting a border on it.

But in the mail today, I received a scarf from Natalie, for the scarf exchange (H&N). It is beautiful. It is black and has other colors woven in. The black is pure alpaca.

That made my day a little brighter.
